Inertial Electrostatic Confinement (IEC)

While this is beyond the usual political banter here, I read this week about the Farnsworth Fusor, and the developments from it. newbie Center
Inertial Electrostatic Confinement (IEC)

After spending an afternoon in the London Sceince Museum, and reading more, I am quite motivated to think through the economic and scientific impacts of this kind of fusor, and find myself wondering why so much money has been spent on Tokamacs. I have actually toured the Joint European Torus (Jet Project), and heard the presenters drone on about temperatures higher than the sun (a false metaphor as the links suggest).

Anyway - we would benefit in so many ways from fusion power, at least all of us but the current energy companies. The Oil companies fear the fact that one of these may eventually be made at a size suitable for a car. The electricity companies could employ these and charge marginally less while increasing their profits dramatically though. This is a future I would like to see.
